Breaking: Singapore Cabinet Reshuffle, New Deputy PM Announced

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has announced a cabinet reshuffle after his current Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat had made his intention to step aside due to his age, he is 61.

The shuffle will see Lawrence Wong the current Finance Minister becoming Deputy Prime Minister number 2, (both Heng and Lawrence) until Heng decides to step down.

However, during the absence of the Prime Minister, Wong (49) will assume the acting Prime Minister role instead of Heng, he will also assume to role of the Strategy Group within the Prime Ministers’ office.

In his Facebook post after the announcement, Prime Minister Lee said the “next generation leadership is taking place”.

Other promotions reported by CNA include, Tan Kiat How will be promoted to Senior Minister of State. He will continue in the Ministry of Communications and Information and the Ministry of National Development.

Eric Chua will be promoted to Senior Parliamentary Secretary. He will continue in the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and the Ministry of Social and Family Development.

Rahayu Mahzam will be promoted to Senior Parliamentary Secretary and will take up a new appointment in the Ministry of Law. She will continue in the Ministry of Health but relinquish her appointment in the Ministry of Communications and Information.
