Aeon Managing Director Shafie Shamsuddin Resigns

Aeon Co Bhd announces the resignation of its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Shafie bin Shamsuddin, effective 30 June 2022, after 3 years with the AEON Group of Companies.

In a statement to Bursa, Aeon said its Board of Directors acknowledges and respects Shafie’s decision to pursue new challenges after successfully steering the Company through the volatilities and complexities of the Covid pandemic and formulating the AEON Strategy Playbook. Shafie began his career as Management Trainee in Carrefour Singapore in 1996 and was the first Asian CEO of Carrefour at the age of 35 years old. He led Carrefour in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia including the role of Executive Director of Global Talent Management and Organizational Development in Carrefour Group in Paris. Shafie also led and transformed Carrefour Indonesia into Transmart, an evolving lifestyle retailer targeting middle income prior to his role in AEON.

We thank him for his dedication and commitment and wish him all the best in his future endeavours”, said AEON Chairman Datuk Iskandar Sarudin.

Shafie will be succeeded by Ono Keiji, an executive with 27 years’ experience serving various roles within the AEON Group globally. Prior to this, Ono has served as President and Representative Director of AEON Cambodia and joins AEON CO. (M) BHD from his role as President and Representative Director of AEON Ryukyu Co. Ltd in Japan.
