Singapore Refrains From Tighter Covid-19 Measures Despite Rise In Cases

Deputy Prime Minister Lawrance Wong said there is no need for Singapore to impose tighter measures at this moment but adjustments may be made if necessary.

The recent rise in cases has been identified to be from the newer Omicron variants known as BA.4 and BA.5 he said. The variants are more transmissible in nature with the severity of infections to be similar to the earlier strains of Omicron. The state is recording a significant increase in cases with daily numbers reaching 7000, the multi ministry taskforce for Covid-19 headed by the Deputy Prime Minister believes the country can ride the wave for now and does not need to tighten any of the relaxation rules.

Singapore has encouraged its senior citizens to take up the third booster shot, as of now 70,000 of its senior citizens have yet to receive their shots.
