Gamuda Awarded RM1.9 Billion Contract For The Rasau Water Supply Scheme By Air Selangor

Gamuda Berhad has been awarded the project known as Proposed Development of Sg. Rasau Water Supply Scheme (Stage 1), Selangor Darul Ehsan – Package 1: Design and Build of Proposed Rasau Intake, Raw Water Pumping Mains, Water Treatment Plant and Associated Works from Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd.

The RM1.968 billion contract will appoint Gamuda as the main contractor for the Rasau Water Supply Scheme where a total of 5 to 10 existing tin mining ponds have been identified as a potential water source in the form of ‘Off-River Storage Facility’. These ponds of various sizes, where the biggest pond in the area is about 164 hectares, are located in the district of Sepang and Petaling. With the significant improvement in Sungai Klang water quality, this river is now a viable potential water source. There is a potential for these ponds to store raw water sources received mainly from Sungai Klang and to a lesser extent, from Sungai Air Hitam and Sungai Rasau.

Construction work includes an intake structure of a 1400 million-liter-a-day capacity to draw augmented raw water from the ex-mining ponds at Taman Putra Permai, Puchong. A 700 MLD of water treatment plant near Tanjung Dua Belas including civil, structural, and building, process plant mechanical works, electrical, instrumentation, SCADA, building services, and associated external works 2.4m diameter twin-pipe connecting the Intake structure and the water treatment plant. Including two overhead bridges crossing Elite Highway and SKVE Highway.

The project is aimed to help solve the issue of low water supply reserve margin shortage faced by the residents in Klang (and Selangor State in general) once completed.
