Government Acted To Slow In Curbing Food Price Increase

The opposition leader has accused the Federal Government of being slow which led to the price of goods in the country reaching untenable levels in the past 6 months.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the recently formed Cabinet Special Committee should have been set up earlier to curb the rising prices of goods.

“The price of chicken has gone up for six months, before Raya Puasa we want to enter Raya Haji, we just want to form a Cabinet Committee. What kingdom is this? He questioned.

Adding that when he was minister… by just paying attention to the market like just before Raya, a few months before that had set up a committee to deal with the problem and it can be controlled.

“Now? It’s soaring, it’s up to tens of ringgit for a kilogram of new chicken to make a Cabinet Committee. It doesn’t help, it doesn’t care about the people’s problems, “he said.

The President of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (KEADILAN) said this during the Selangor – Kuala Selangor Hope Tour at Kampung Permatang Field, Tanjung Karang here, last night.

He said the Selangor Government had set the best example in addressing several issues by always being at the forefront to ensure that the people were not burdened.

“I am confident that Selangor can be defended but I want my friends in Selangor to go down to the field to other states. The story of what happened in Selangor, the difference in the way of administration so that there will be changes later, ”he said.

On November 30 last year, Anwar once praised the State Government’s initiative to create vegetable sales through the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) to help the people.

“When there is a crisis and PKPS comes forward to hold sales such as vegetables, the price can be reduced to RM1.50 to RM2 because there is a food valley and its own farms that can reduce costs.”I follow the development and feel I should give support and this is a proud example by the Selangor Government and hope other states and the federal government take immediate action on the price of vegetables and fish which are all rising,” he said.
