Malaysians Advised Against Traveling To Sri Lanka

The Foreign Ministry has advised Malaysians against traveling to Sri Lanka in the wake of public unrest and the country facing unprecedented financial difficulties.

After a spate of protests and riots, the island was plunged into further disaster when it was declared bankrupt leaving basic consumer staples rising in price including fuel which has become a scarcity. The Ministry adds it is closely monitoring the situation there and is in close contact with the High Commission in Colombo to ensure all Malaysians are accounted for and assist them if the need arises.

At the same time, Malaysians currently in Sri Lanka are advised to register themselves at the consular and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authority to foreigners.

Both Prime Minister and President had resigned after angry ptotestesters stormed the residency and burned them down, after demanding the premier’s resignation.
