The Selangor State Government organised a soft launch to reveal its strategic plan to develop a 2000 – acre mixed development land into a dedicated aerospace industrial park called the Selangor International Aero Park (SAP) here at the Malaysian Pavilion in Farnborough International Airshow 2022, taking advantage of the country’s participation in one of the biggest aviation and aerospace industry expo in the region. SAP is an initiative by the Selangor State Government to cater to the increasing demands from the existing and new aerospace industry players to set up APAC regional operations in Malaysia.
The soft launch ceremony was officiated by The Right Honourable Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, Chief Minister of Selangor.
The development of SAP in Selangor is part of a value proposition from Selangor to address existing challenges and opportunities raised by the industry. SAP will be made possible through collaborations between the state government with property developers, key aerospace and aviation agencies and industry players alike.
SAP is designed to be a free trade zone and cater to activities such as maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO), aircraft teardown, aircraft retro fitting, engines and aero manufacturing, training & research centres and development labs. The industrial park will feature state of the art smart hangars, offices complexes, test bed facilities, bonded warehouses and it will also have direct access to existing and current runways to ease movement of aircrafts going in and out of the park.
In acknowledging the importance of the aerospace and aviation industry to Malaysia and in strengthening the industry sustainably, the Selangor State Government has identified the industry as one of its 9 focus sectors in the state’s 5-year development plan, Rancangan Selangor Pertama or RS-1 which will run from 2021 to 2025.
Apart from that, Invest Selangor Berhad will also be organising the 2nd edition of the Selangor Aviation Show (SAS), a dedicated aerospace and aviation international trade expo, which will be held from 8 to 10 September in Subang, Selangor. This expo was developed with the objective to promote and to position Selangor, Malaysia as a preferred aerospace hub in the region.
