Building Sustainably with Haskell

With the rising issues of climate change, companies are finding new ways to save energy, work more efficiently, and are switching out unrecyclable and unsustainable materials for more sustainable materials with decomposing properties. However, sustainability efforts should not be limited to the production level, it extends to the facility that houses the production.

“This is done by integrating sustainable designs and construction that begin at the conception of the project, and Haskell has just that expertise.” – Matthew Schultz, Director of Construction

Haskell was one of the early U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) members that joined the organization in 2001. Since then, they have achieved all four levels of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification: Certified, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. They have also employed over 200 LEED Accredited Professionals (LEED APs) to provide their expertise on design, construction, operations, and building management.

With expertise in New Construction and Major Renovations (NC), Existing Building (EB), and Commercial Interiors (CI) categories, Haskell has a Green Building portfolio that exceeds $2billion across over 100 LEED certified projects, ranking them #3 in Green Manufacturing & Industrial Contractor and Design Firm in the U.S. according to Engineering News-Record (ENR).

Haskell’s LEED experience includes the following services:

* Site Evaluation & Selection
* Program Management
* Civil Engineering
* Architecture
* Engineering
* Construction
* Landscape Architecture
* Interior Design
* Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
* Process Design
* Manufacturing Integration
* Equipment Specification
* Equipment Installation
* Project Management
* Commissioning
* Energy/Facility Audits
* Cost Analysis
* Integrated Project Delivery powered by Building Information Modelling (BIM)

With expertise in industries such as Food & Beverage, Aviation & Aerospace, Consumer Goods, Electrical & Electronics, and Religious & Cultural, and many other industries, Haskell is confident in their abilities to produce results no matter the industry. One of Haskell’s most notable green projects is Nike’s distribution facility in Memphis, Tennessee. The 125-acre site was locally sourced, with concrete tilt-up walls for FM Maximum Foreseeable Loss criteria located in a high seismic design zone, a white TPO membrane roof with solar tracking skylights, and blue-jean insulation in the office area and occupancy sensor lighting to reduce energy consumption.

Recently, Haskell has successfully achieved several Green Awards for an ongoing coffee roasting plant project in China. The facility is incorporated with advancements in sustainable manufacturing, smart supply chain innovation, and technology to support the aspiration to deliver the most energy- and water-efficient roasting operations for Starbucks in the world, while minimizing waste. With these features integrated into the design of the facility, it has been awarded with the LEED Platinum certification, as well as China’s Three Star Green Building standards.

“Haskell’s philosophy is to shape the environment and communities they serve through the facilities they create and the way their business is conducted. As design-builders, they believe to have a special responsibility to understand, advocate, and execute sustainable designs, constructions, and business practices.” – Matthew Schultz, Director of Construction
