Cooking Oil Subsidies Cost Govt Over RM380 Million Over 11 Months

More than RM380mil has been allocated for cooking oil subsidies in the past 11 months up to June, says Deputy Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Rosol Wahid.

During the oral question and answer session in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (July 25), he said the total subsidy for cooking oil in 1kg, 3kg and 5kg containers amounted to RM380,102,45.71.

“This is only for cooking oil,” he said, adding that gas, petrol, sugar and other necessities were not included.

Rosol (PN-Hulu Terengganu) was responding to a question from Karupaiya Mutusami (PH-Padang Serai) on the subsidy cost for necessities.

Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said last month that the total amount of subsidies was expected to reach close to RM80bil this year, the largest in history.

No Employers Charged Yet For Minimum Wage Order

No employers have been charged for failing to abide by the new minimum wage of RM1,500 a month since it was implemented on May 1, the Dewan Rakyat was told.

Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan said this was because the salaries for May were only received by most employees in early June.

“Up till June 30, no employers were charged for failing to abide by the Minimum Wages Order 2022,” he said during Oral Question Time on Monday (July 25).

“Statistics of errant employers who did not abide by the Order could not be prepared following its enforcement on May 1 and compliance can only be ascertained through periodic checks,” he added.

Over 100 cosmetic products were pulled from shelves for making outlandish claims, says Deputy Health Minister Datuk Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali.

This came after the ministry investigated claims against 1,775 cosmetic products from last year up to June this year, he added.

“Of this total, warnings were issued to companies involving 283 advertisements that went beyond claims allowed under the guidelines for cosmetics.

“Whereas the notification status for 104 products was revoked as they went beyond medical claims and the scope of definition of cosmetics,” he said in reply to Sabri Azit (PN-Jerai) in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday.
