The anti-hopping Bill which penalises party-hopping elected representatives was finally brought to the Dewan Rakyat by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob  on Wednesday (July 27) morning.

The Bill was tabled for its Second Reading by Ismail Sabri in Parliament.

Ismail Sabri said there were several engagement sessions with stakeholders held from Nov 11 last year up till April 10 this year.

The Bera MP said the government takes into account concerns raised by MPs during a special sitting on April 11 that saw the tabling of the Bill for its First Reading.

The Bill was later amended to ensure that it fulfils the expectations of everyone,” said Ismail Sabri in Parliament on Wednesday (July 27).

Azmin says Malaysia’s trade rose to RM21.5b in June 2022, the highest since RCEP kicked in

While it is still too early to see the full benefits, Malaysia’s exports have already shown significant growth after the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) kicked in, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali told Parliament today.

He said that since the inception of RCEP in March until the end of last month, a total of 73 preferential certificates of origin (PCO) have been approved, with an export value of RM31.9 billion for the export of goods under the trade deal.

“In June alone, we recorded the highest export value, at RM21.5 billion,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat.

Azmin was responding to Penampang MP Datuk Ignatius Darell Leiking from Parti Warisan, who was also the previous international trade and industry minister, and had wanted to know the impact of RCEP on Malaysia’s trade since it came into effect.

Azmin: Malaysia to continue cooperation with RCEP members amid constraints due to China’s Zero-Covid Policy

Malaysia will continue to have collaborative diplomatic, trade and investment relations with Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) members despite the major global constraints and challenges following China’s implementation of its Zero-Covid Policy.

Senior Minister and International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the ministry took note of the many reports and studies published on the trade moderation or dampening resulting from the policy.

However, he said, the country had continued to record an encouraging trade performance up to the middle of this year following the signing of the RCEP.

“The closure of borders undoubtedly has an impact on the facilitation of trade and investment between China and other RCEP member nations.

“However, (there’s little impact) if we look at Malaysia’s trade performance for June which increased by 43.4 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM270.39 billion, as well as our trade with RCEP member China, which saw a double-digit growth for the 19th successive month,” he said in reply to a supplementary question from Datuk Darell Leiking (Warisan-Penampang) in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Darell wanted to know the extent to which China’s Zero-Covid Policy had affected Malaysia’s trade with its RCEP partners. He originally asked on the impact on the nation’s trade since the RCEP agreement came into force in Malaysia in March and the industries currently being prioritised by the government
