MAHB July Passenger Trafiic Hits 7.8 Million

Malaysian Airports Holding Berhad reported its total passenger movements for all its airports, the group continues to register growth in passengers, registering 7.8 million for July.

Both international and domestic passenger movements recorded 3.1 million and 4.7 million passengers reaching 51.3% and 72.2% pre-pandemic levels respectively. International passenger movements in July 2022 surpassed the 3 million mark, buoyed by the summer holidays period, Hajj season, and further resumption of airlines services and connectivity.

The recovery pace of international passenger movements continued in Malaysia, reaching 1.6 million passengers. Kota Kinabalu International Airport welcomed the recommencement of Air Busan from Busan, South Korea with 3 flights weekly services, AirAsia daily flights to Singapore, and 3 flights weekly services to Don Mueang. Batik Air and AirAsia recommenced daily services from Kuala Namu, Medan, and 2 flights weekly to Cam Ranh from KL International Airport (KLIA) respectively.

The recent announcement to lift pre-departure and on-arrival COVID-19 test, home surveillance orders, and quarantines for all inbound travellers to Malaysia from 1 August 2022 provide optimism for the international movements to recover further. Domestic passenger movements in July recovered 69.8% of pre-pandemic levels and continued to register above 3 million reaching 3.2 million passengers.

Istanbul SGIA passenger movements were driven by both international and domestic sectors. July 2022 recorded a new high since the pandemic, surpassing the 3 million level and reaching 89.3% of pre-pandemic passenger volumes. International and domestic passengers recorded 1.5 million and 1.6 million passengers respectively. KLIA and Langkawi International Airport (LGK) were also among the world’s best airports in the latest Airport Service Quality survey by Airports Council International for the second quarter of 2022. KLIA shared the achievement with seven other airports in the 40 million passengers per annum (mppa) category. LGK was the only airport scoring the full marks in the 2-5 mppa category. These achievements are testaments to MAHB’s continuous commitment in ensuring service and operational excellence.
