Singtel & StarHub In Talks With FIFA To Get Broadcasting Rights For 2022 World Cup

According to the two pay-TV operators, Singtel and StarHub are in talks with FIFA about the broadcast rights to the 2022 World Cup. They confirmed this in response to CNA’s questions on August 18, but said they couldn’t comment further.

The 2022 World Cup begins on November 20 in Qatar, with the host country facing Ecuador in the opening match.

It will be the first World Cup held in the Middle East. To avoid the region’s punishing summer heat, the tournament has been pushed back from its usual June to July date.

During the 2018 World Cup, Singtel, StarHub, and Mediacorp worked together for the first time to provide complete World Cup coverage, with all 64 games shown by all three broadcasters.

The World Cup package was $94.16 in an early-bird promotion, and then cost S$112.35 – the same as during the 2014 World Cup.

In addition, Mediacorp broadcasted nine free matches on Okto in 2018, five more than in previous years.

The People’s Association has previously organised free public live screenings. It screened World Cup games at 55 community clubs and Our Tampines Hub four years ago.
