Discussions were held between Malaysia and Indonesia here on broadband services and the provision of infrastructure for the expansion of Internet service networks in rural and remote areas, says Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
The talks involved the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Telecommunications and Indonesia’s Information Accessibility Agency (Bakti) during Annuar’s three-day working visit here starting Thursday (Aug 18).
Annuar was accompanied by Chargè d’affaires ad interim of the Malaysian Embassy in Indonesia, Adlan Mohd Shaffieq, in the discussion which was also attended by MCMC interim chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh and BAKTI president director Anang Latif.
Speaking to the media after the talks, Annuar said Bakti shared much information with the Malaysians especially on Indonesia’s experience in developing their internet network, the system adopted, and the use of satellite technology.
“We exchanged experiences and views and also enquired about what has been done in Indonesia itself.
“On the whole, we have a lot in common, even the problems are almost identical but in terms of implementation they are of course different,” Bernama quoted him saying.
Annuar also believes that the sharing of best practices in developing digital infrastructure among Asean countries can be improved.
He said bilateral cooperation should always be held especially how each country adapts to technology based on their respective experiences.
