Maybank 6 Months Profits Down 10.4% To RM3.9 Billion

Maybank Group posted a profit after tax and zakat attributable to equity holders of RM3.9 billion for the six-month financial period ended 30 June 2022, a decrease of RM452.5 million or 10.4% as compared to the previous corresponding six-month financial period ended 30 June 2021.’

The Group’s net interest income and Islamic Banking income for the six-month financial period ended 30 June 2022 increased by RM512.2 million or 5.2% to RM10.28 billion as compared to the previous corresponding six-month financial period ended 30 June 2021. Net earned insurance premiums from the Insurance and Takaful subsidiaries also decreased by RM71.2 million to RM4.62 billion.

Other operating income of the Group was RM1.31 billion, a decrease of RM851.4 million or 39.3% from RM2.16 billion in the previous corresponding six-month. Maybank said the decrease was mainly due to unrealised mark-to-market loss on revaluation of derivatives of RM1.52 billion as compared to unrealised mark-to-market gain on revaluation of derivatives of RM104.7 million for the previous period, net loss in investment income of RM202.7 million compared to net gain of RM476.3 million for the previous financial period, higher unrealised mark-to-market loss on revaluation of financial investments at FVTPL of RM534.3 million, lower fee income of RM254.9 million, net foreign exchange loss of RM56.5 million.

Current Quarter versus the previous period, the Group posted a profit after tax and zakat attributable to equity holders of RM1.85 billion for the quarter ended 30 June 2022, a decrease of RM105.3 million or 5.4% as compared to the previous period corresponding quarter ended 30 June 2021.

The Group is maintaining its Headline KPI of return on equity of between 9.5% and 10% for FY2022, factoring in the impact of the one-off Prosperity Tax announced by the federal government of Malaysia.
