Indoor Face Mask Optional With Immediate Effect: Health Minister Khairy

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin in further easing Covid-19restrictions has removed one of the last guidelines mandated, which is the wearing of masks while indoors. Today the Minister has issued a statement making the option no longer mandatory but optional.

However, the policy will not change for public spaces like health care facilities, nursing homes, public transport, and hospitals. Khairy also advised those with high risks to keep their masks on.

Premise owners on the hand can also enforce mask-wearing as this will be their prerogative according to the Ministry. The decision comes on the back of Covid-19 cases stabilising with vaccine coverage hitting the maximum threshold thanks to MOH’s aggressive campaign in 2021.
