Ministry Of Home Affairs Raises Issue Of Malaysians Stranded In Foreign Countries At The AMMTC

The issue of Malaysians being stranded in foreign countries due to overseas employment fraud syndicates were among the issues raised at the 16th ASEAN Security Ministers’ Plenary Meeting on Cross-Border Crime (AMMTC) yesterday.

The meeting organized by the Cambodian government as ASEAN 2022 Chairman took place online and was attended by 10 ASEAN countries, ASEAN Dialogue Partner Countries and the ASEAN Secretariat.

The Ministry of Home Affairs in a statement today announced the establishment of a special task force under the Royal Malaysian Police actively carrying out actions to deal with the issue and also cooperated with Interpol (International Criminal Police Organisation), Aseanapol (ASEAN Police) and other enforcement agencies.

The head of the Cambodian government delegation, which is the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior of Cambodia Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng, gave a positive response by expressing his commitment to save the victims and together with the countries involved to combat the employment fraud syndicate operating in Cambodia, according to the statement.
