KDEBWM Readies 1800 Personals For Flood Respond

KDEB Waste Management which was heavily involved in after flood clearing in 2021, is preparing more than 1,800 personnel to respond to any floods that may occur at the end of this year.

Its managing director Ramli Mohd Tahir said this includes support and cleaning staff.

“In the case of floods, we have 500 Roro (roll-on-roll-off) bins that can be deployed and each vehicle has three cleaning staff, including the driver. That makes up a total of 1,500 personnel.

“In addition to that, we have about 300 to 350 staff who are prepared to go to locations that are affected by floods,” he said when contacted.

The bump up in personnel comes from its experience in handling the flood where the state-owned waste management company deploys all its assets and manpower to manage the flood situation. This time around its said there are 1,100 machinery assets on standby for the floods.

All of the machinery including compactor lorries would be used effectively in all flooded areas, especially Taman Sri Muda in Section 25, Shah Alam.

The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) had identified eight districts in Selangor that are flood hotspots, namely Klang, Petaling, Gombak, Hulu Langat, Sepang, Kuala Langat, Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor.
