Rubber Production Failed To Bounce Higher In August, Decreasing 15.2% Compared To Same Month In 2021 

Malaysia’s natural rubber production in August 2022 amounted 36,411 tonnes, decreased 15.2 per cent as compared to 42,942 tonnes in August 2021 and also showed a decrease of 3.8 per cent from last month.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) released its Monthly Rubber Statistics Malaysia, August 2022 report today which revealed the year-on-year comparison also showed that the production of natural rubber decreased by 15.2 per cent (July 2021: 42,942 tonnes). 

Production of natural rubber in August 2022 for Malaysia was mainly contributed by smallholders sector (87.5%) as compared to estates sector (12.5%).

Total stocks of natural rubber in August 2022 decreased by 8.1 per cent to 209,491 tonnes as compared to 228,039 tonnes in July 2022. Rubber processors factory contributed 91.6 per cent of the stocks followed by rubber consumers factory (8.3%) and rubber  estates (0.1%).

Exports of Malaysia’s natural rubber amounted to 60,170 tonnes in August 2022, increased 11.9 per cent as against July 2022 (53,752 tonnes). P.R. China remained as the main destination for natural rubber exports which accounted 40.5 per cent of total exports in August 2022 followed by the Iran (5.4%), Germany (4.0%), the United States of America (4.0%) and Turkiye (4.0%). 

Analysis of the average monthly price showed that Latex Concentrated recorded a  decrease of 3.3 per cent (August 2022: 514.73 sen per kg, July 2022: 532.28 sen per kg) while, Scrap decreased by 5.8 per cent (August 2022: 533.29 sen per kg, July 2022: 566.13 sen per kg).
