Associations of women and single mothers in the state are able to mobilise various programs specifically for that group through an RM5,000 aid grant provided by the Selangor Government.

The Chairman of the Welfare and Women’s Economic Organization (Peka) of the Lembah Jaya State Legislative Assembly (DUN) said his party was planning to hold an entrepreneurship workshop to upgrade the economy of single mothers in the area.

Norita Che Ali informed that a motivational program was also planned due to the many single mothers who were mentally affected during the movement control order due to Covid-19.

“Our focus is on the development of single mothers, so with this help we can give them some knowledge so that the family’s economy can be improved.

“We appreciate the State Government’s efforts to focus on single mothers. God willing, this provision will be used as best as possible for related activities,” she said when met.

Earlier, the single mother aid grant was presented by Dato’ Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari in conjunction with the Selangor Penyayang Tour at KIP Mall Kota Warisan here yesterday.

Meanwhile, the supervisor of the Empowered Women’s Center (PWB) DUN Bukit Lanjan said the same workshop will be conducted by combining PWBs throughout Selangor.

According to Juliana Abu Bakar, single mothers should be given the right guidance so that they can develop themselves and be competitive, especially in business.

“If there are no funds, it is difficult for us to carry out activities because everything involves money. Whether the number is small or large, we can’t let this group be stuck in the house alone.

“At least we help them. If we do business, we can teach how to get money faster to support the family,” she said, adding that 40 single mothers have been registered so far.

Planning for the same, Cekal Women and Single Mothers’ Association Secretary of Sungai Kandis state assembly Roslida Udin said working papers will be drawn up to make the workshop a success.

“Alhamdulillah, we actually did not expect to receive this grant. God willing, it will be used by the management to provide entrepreneurial knowledge to single mothers.

“We don’t want to give them monetary aid only, but instead knowledge and skills are important so that they can be independent,” she said.
