Avoid Installing Campaign Materials On TNB Premises, Electrical Installations During GE15 Period

TNB is advising political parties not to install any form of campaign materials on any premises and electrical installations belonging to the national utility company during the campaigning period for the 15th General Election (GE15) from 5 November to 18 November.

This prohibition includes pasting or hanging campaign materials such as posters, flags and banners on transmission towers, power poles, supply boxes, substations, concrete power poles and overhead lines.

“This act can invite danger because there is a risk of electric shock. It may also cause a power outage if a flashover occurs, damaging property and even life-threatening,” said TNB’s Chief Distribution Network Officer, Wan Nazmy Wan Mahmood.

“The installation of campaign materials can also prevent TNB employees from gaining access for maintenance work and supply restoration.”

Wan Nazmy also reminded the public not to hold, carry or install flagpoles under any electricity transmission lines, including flagpoles made of bamboo which can cause electric shocks to those nearby.

According to him, this dangerous activity also violates the provisions of Section 37, Electricity Supply Act 1990 (Act 447), which is to damage electrical installations. As a preventive measure, TNB, through routine patrols, will work with the Malaysian Election Commission (SPR) and the authorities to take down election campaign materials that risk causing danger and problems to users.

The public who see a situation that may threaten the safety of others or affect the electricity supply can immediately contact Facebook TNB CareLine or 15454 so that appropriate action can be taken to prevent unwanted things from happening.
