Maxis Records 3.1% Dip In Q3 Profits Due To Prosperity Tax, Declares 5 Sen Dividend

Maxis recorded an improved performance for Q3 with service revenue increasing by 3.7% to RM2.1 billion mainly from the consumer and enterprise segment. EBITDA also saw an increase, up 3% to RM1billion however profits after tax dipped 3.1% to RM315 million due to the one-off prosperity tax.

For the quarter, the telco saw the consumer business recording revenue of RM1.7 billion, up by 4.1% with the postpaid segment enjoying steady subscriber growth. The segment was up 6.4%, bringing the total number of postpaid subscriptions to 3.27 million. This contributed to a 6.0% increase in revenue, amounting to RM830 million. Prepaid remained resilient despite a continued pre-to-post migration, recording a slight drop of 1.8% in subscriptions. The segment saw continued adoption of Hotlink Unlimited, growing usage of Hotlink Prepaid Pantas from new segments, and returning migrants compensating for prepaid-to-postpaid subscriber movements.

Home Connectivity saw double-digit revenue growth of 16.2%, with 83k additional home connections YoY, bringing the total home fibre connections to 652k. Enterprise Business delivered RM387 million in revenue, up 1.8%, with a focus on expanding its convergence capabilities. Business Registration Numbers (BRNs) also increased by 5.0%, ensuring the continued potential for revenue uplift.

Outgoing CEO Gökhan Ogut who commented on the results, said “we are pleased with another strong performance for this quarter, which underlines our stability in building the foundation for further growth. We look forward to bringing soon the best of 5G services to our customers who can now sign up for exciting 5G device offers which were launched today.”

CAPEX for the quarter was at RM272 million.

The telco group also declared an interim dividend of 5 sen net per share.
