BNM International Reserves For October At US$105.2 Billion

The international reserves of Bank Negara Malaysia amounted to USD105.2 billion as of 31 October 2022. The reserve position is sufficient to finance 5.5 months of imports of goods and services and is 1.1 times the total short-term external debt.

The Central Bank adds Malaysia’s performance on this indicator is in line with regional and peer5 economies. On a historical basis, reserve coverage of imports of goods and services indicator has been in the range of between 5 and 8 months since 2008 – well above the generally accepted ‘rule of thumb’ adequacy threshold of 3-months, and demonstrates the ability of the Malaysian economy to withstand against external shocks.
