Mining, Manufacturing Sectors Drives Malaysia’s Industrial Production Index (IPI) Up By 10.8% In Sept 2022

The Industrial Production Index (IPI) increased 10.8 per cent in September 2022 as compared to the same month of the previous year. The expansion of IPI was contributed by the Mining (15.0%), Manufacturing (10.4%) and Electricity (4.1%) sectors. 

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) released its Index of Industrial Production, Malaysia September 2022 reported today which found on year-on-year basis, the Manufacturing sector output increased by 10.4 per cent in September 2022 after recording a growth of 15.2 per cent in August 2022.

The main subsectors contributed to the growth in Manufacturing sector in September 2022 were Electrical & Electronics Products (15.5%), Petroleum, Chemical, Rubber & Plastic Products (6.5%) and Transport Equipment & Other Manufactures Products (21.6%). Simultaneously, domestic-oriented and export-oriented industries recorded a growth of 11.2 per centand 10.1 per centrespectively.

The Mining sector output rose 15.0 per cent in September 2022 as compared to the same period of the previous year. The growth was spearheaded by the increment of 21.0 per cent in Natural Gas index and 7.2 per cent in Crude Oil & Condensate index. 

The IPI for the third quarter 2022 grew 12.2 per cent as compared to the same period of the previous year. The increase was attributed by the growth in Manufacturing index (13.4%), Electricity index (9.0%) and Mining index (8.6%).
