Axiata Shareholders Approve Proposed Celcom-Digi Merger

Axiata Group in a press statement said its Board of Directors has approved the proposed merger between the group’s Celcom and Norwegian telecommunication company owned Digi.com Berhad.

The approval came after the conclusion of the Group’s Extraordinary General Meeting.

The group added the outcome of the EGM by poll vote has been submitted to Bursa Securities as required by the applicable regulations. With the shareholders giving the nod, the merger moves closer to completion, having previously cleared the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, the Securities Commission, and Bursa prior to this EGM.

Once completed, the combined entity will command 70% of the total mobile communication user base making it the largest mobile network operator in the country.

As announced earlier, current Celcom CEO Mohamad Idham Nawawi will lead the united telco while Digi CEO Albern Murty will take on the Deputy role.
