State To Give RM150 Shopping Voucher For Senior Citizens And The Disabled Jan 2023

Senior citizens and disabled people (OKU) in Selangor will receive shopping vouchers of RM150 per year and death benefit of RM500 through the Special People Friendly Scheme (SMIS).

The states Social Welfare department said the restructured program from the Senior Age Friendly Scheme (SMUE) with funds of RM37.5 million can be applied for from 1 January 2023.

"Previously, many did not know that the SMUE program was also open to the disabled regardless of the age limit. Only 5.5 percent are registered. That's why we restructured it so that it is more targeted," the department said.

The program was announced by the Selangors Chief Minister when he presented the State Budget 2023 last month. The household income eligibility limit for Jom Shopping voucher recipients will also be increased from RM2,000 per month to RM3,000 per month starting next year.

Currently, participants registered under the SMUE program receive a RM100 shopping voucher at selected supermarkets on their birth month, which is made through the community service centre.
