Government Postpones Minimum Wage Order For Companies With 5 Staffs And Below

The Ministry of Human Resources has decided to postpone the RM1500 minimum wage implementation for companies emplyoying workers of 5 or below to the middle of 2023 instead of 1 January 2023.

The Minimum Wage Order (PMG) 2022 came into effect on 1 May 2022 where all sectors will have to comply with the RM1500 minimum pay however exemption were given to employers who employed 5 staff or below who would need to implement them only on 1 January.

However, the Ministry said after taking into account the mutual agreement of all parties, the effective implementation of the Minimum Wage of RM1,500 will now be in 1 July 2023.

This was decided after taking into account the views of various parties and stakeholders who are expected to face economic and financial challenges in the year 2023. An Addition, it said the delay of six months is also expected to be granted an opportunity to coordinate and balance a meager financial need as much as will help restore the economic position of companies that employ less than five workers.

The Ministry has also asked employers who are not involved in this delay to continue to comply with the implementation by paying a minimum salary of RM 1,500 per month to the workers.
