The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMC) is advised to build a covered parking lot to store seized vehicles to avoid depreciation of the vehicle during auction.

Deputy Minister of Finance I, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said, it follows that there is a significant price difference between the value of auction vehicles placed in covered areas compared to open areas exposed to rainy and hot weather.

“As a result of a visit to three RMC enforcement offices in Kuala Terengganu, Kelantan and Kemaman, I was informed that the value of cars that are not covered (placed in the parking lot) is different, not as high as the covered cars.

“So we are losing revenue as a result of not ‘covering’ the seized vehicles,” he said after a working visit to the Kemaman JKDM Office which was also attended by Terengganu RMC Director Mohd Nadzri Ariffin.

Ahmad said, he will bring the proposal to the top management of RMC to make an assessment including the cost for the construction of roofs in enforcement offices throughout the country.

According to Ahmad, even if the matter seems small, it can add to the national income for the benefit of the people.

“This is one of the creative ways that RMC can do to add new revenue without having to implement new taxes for the people,” he said.

In another development, Ahmad said, RCM Terengganu managed to record a tax collection of more than RM5.6 million until last Dec 26.

In addition, a total of 167 arrest cases were successfully recorded involving the confiscation of cigarettes, firecrackers, fireworks, vehicles and industrial commodities.
