The Special Aid from Padiberas Nasional Berhad amounting to RM10 million which was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be distributed in stages to the rice farmers said Mohamad Sabu Minister Of Agriculture and food Security.
Three states will be benefiting from the grant, namely Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang while rice farmers in other states will receive when the balance of special aid BERNAS amounting to RM50 million will be distributed. According to Sabu, rice farmers in the three states involved will receive the special assistance by January 16 at the latest. He added that MAFS and the agencies are currently finalising the list of farmers’ names and account numbers in the three states to ensure the distribution process runs smoothly.
A total of 20,598 farmers will receive benefits from BERNAS amounting to RM250 for each paddy field they operate and has been handed out since last December. This comes after the rice distributor agreed to allocate RM60 million to help rice farmers throughout the country.
