Malaysia Targets 5 Million Chinese Tourist This Year

Minister of Tourism Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing was confident Malaysia can achieve 5 million China tourists compared to 3.1 million in 2019.

The target is set after taking into consideration of the recent border opening announcement after lifting the Zero policy mandate the country practised for 3 years. Effective Feb 6 China will resume group travels to 20 countries including Malaysia said Tiong.

On concerns about the Covid outbreak with the arrivals of China tourists, the Minister said there is nothing to worry about as visitors entering the country will be fully vaccinated and besides will also undergo screening before departure.

Malaysia was one of the preferred destinations for tourists from China with the industry recording high sales receipts from visitors. With the tourism sector looking to revive after the onslaught of the pandemic, the much-anticipated return of tourists can help boost the industry back to its glory days.
