Minister Officially Meets MITI’s New Sec-Gen

International Trade And Industry Minister (MITI) Tengku Zafrul Aziz officially welcomed Datuk Isham Ishak, MITI’s newly appointed Secretary General this morning, after returning for the World Economic Forum last night.

‘’I believe together we can achieve MITI’s targets for 2023,’ Zafrul said in a tweet today (Jan 25).

The Minister has been away at World Economic Forum in Davos his first overseas stint since taking over MITI, prior to this he was at the Ministry of Finance.

Datuk Isham Ishak, who hails from MRT Corp was the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Transport Malaysia from November 2019 and was previously appointed as the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia from February 2019 to November 2019 and the Secretary-General of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry Malaysia (MITI) on 2 July 2018 to 16 February 2019.

He was also the Deputy Secretary General (Trade) of MITI from 2016 to 2018 and served in several divisions related to international and regional aspects of trade and industry while at MITI, including Trade Facilitation, Strategic Planning, WTO, APEC and ASEAN. He also successfully helped Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Malaysia while serving as Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of SME Corporation Malaysia, an agency under MITI from 2014 to 2016. Datuk Isham has spent five years at United States of America, from 2006 to 2011, as Minister Advisor at MITI’s Washington D.C. Office.
