Four Variants All-New Perodua Axia Launched, Priced From RM38,600

Perodua launched its all-new Axia today (Feb 14), setting a new benchmark in safety, fuel efficiency and features.

It comes in four variants of G, X , SE and AV priced at RM38,600, RM40,000 RM44,000 and RM49,500. respectively.

The new generation sees an increase in prices of between RM4,000 and RM5,000 from the previous generation.

However, Perodua still retained the manual variant of the first-gen Axia mainly to cater to driving schools.

Among new features offered in the top model variant are auto high beam with LED lights, semi-leather seats, six airbags, multi-function steering wheel, blind spot detection, 9-inch LCD touchscreen, lane departure warning and rear cross traffic alert.

The boot  can fit 4 cabin-sized suitcases.

Perodua was at pains to emphasise that the D74A Axia was not a cheap car but a “cost-optimised car” that had set a new standard for entry-level cars and offers the best value for money in its price range.

Six days earlier, Perodua held a media preview and drive of the new A-segment hatchback.

A 7-km drive around Sepang proved revealing. The Axia in AV guise actually feels more refined now.  Vibrations are minimal and the NVH has seen an improvement. It looks modern and trendy with a dashboard oriented towards the driver for a sporty accent. Size-wise it has grown but still a little smaller than the Myvi.

The 1.0-litre engine is same as the old one and eager to please, feeling peppy and brisk when pushed hard. Relaying power to the front axle is a new D-CVT, which replaces the 4-speed auto in the old Axia. It felt smooth and precise as it changes through the gears, while not making the loud drony sound that used to characterise traditional CVTs.
