MATRADE: Collaboration Among Agencies Key To Sustaining Malaysia’s Success In Export

Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development (MECD), as well as SME Bank will be organising the participation of 11 Malaysian Food and Beverages (F&B) companies in the Export Acceleration Mission (EAM) to Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Held in conjunction with Gulfood 2023 from 18 to 25 February 2023, the mission’s main objectives are to showcase Malaysia's capabilities and expertise in providing world-class food and beverages (F&B) products and services as well as to enable Malaysian companies to venture into the global market, particularly the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, by connecting with prominent buyers.

“This year, MATRADE continues to strengthen the strategic collaboration with MECD and SME Bank in implementing export-related programmes. The complementary roles assumed by these export ecosystem players will facilitate more SMEs to establish their global footprint. This EAM is also an initiative to uplift SMEs’ contribution to Malaysia’s exports to 25 percent by 2025, as per target set under 12th Malaysia Plan,” said Abu Bakar Yusof (pic), Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Exporters Development) of MATRADE.

Held annually, Gulfood is one of the world’s largest trade fair in the food, beverage and luxury foodstuff industry. The 28th edition of this iconic event continues to connect the global food and beverage industry and keeps on growing in importance in order to avail the countless business opportunities. The event will host over 5000 exhibitors from over 120 countries, unveiling new business opportunities as well as provide solutions to new and evolving global challenges.

This EAM is the first initiative in 2023 through the strategic collaboration with MECD and SME Bank to assist Malaysian SMEs in export activities and venturing into new target markets. For the year 2022, a total of four (4) initiatives were carried out under the collaboration assisting 42 SMEs from various sectors including F&B, Healthcare, ICT, Oil & Gas and many more. The initiatives carried out in 2022 was able to generate a total of RM242.1 million worth of export sales.

The initiatives planned under this collaboration will be able to assist Malaysian companies in penetrating the global market, leveraging on the engagements of high- profile and quality market players that are looking for new business opportunities.
