A free shuttle bus service from KL Sentral to the Parliament building is available starting today to overcome the issue of the lack of parking spaces and traffic congestion every day during the conference.

Transport Minister, Anthony Loke, said the bus service, which is open to all including Members of Parliament and duty officers and media practitioners, starts at 8am until the end of the conference every day with a travel frequency of 30 minutes at peak times and every hour at other times.

“Our aim (to provide this service) is to ensure that there is a mode of public transport that reaches directly to Parliament. This journey of approximately 5 kilometers will also stop at Taman Botani because there is a parking lot there and staff can Park and Ride,” he told reporters at the grounds of the Parliament building here, today.

Earlier, he boarded the bus from KL Sentral to the Parliament building.

Loke said the congestion occurred because nearly 2,000 vehicles entered the Parliament complex every day, but only about 500 parking spaces were provided.

“With this bus, officers can also save time because the bus will stop at the security post for them to collect their passes. This bus does not need to queue (on the visitor route) to enter Parliament,” he said.

According to him, two buses are rented every day at a rental cost of RM800 each and are fully borne by the Ministry of Transport.
