MAFS Celebrates Contributions Made By Malaysian Farmers At LPP’s 5 Decade Awards Ceremony

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) Datuk Seri Haji Mohamad Sabu officiated the Farmers Organisation Authority (LPP) 5 Decades Awards Ceremony recently in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of the Board of Farmers’ Organizations at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS), Serdang.

The presentation of awards depicted the appreciation of the struggle of the Board of Farmers’ Organisations in dignifying their contributions to the sector, the movement of Farmers’ Organisations role and welfare of farmers.

Some 1,200 people consisting of farmers, stakeholders, strategic partners, alumni, Figura Peladang, friends journalists and LPP citizens came from across the country to celebrate LPP’s 50th anniversary on February 14, 2023, which augurs well towards LPP making strides in the responsibility of improving the Malaysia’s socio-economics within agro-food industry.

The Minister congratulated LPP for the role it has played as the heart of the Farmers’ Organization movement for five decades.He called on all farmers to continue to support LPP as agents of agro-food development in ensuring food availability and security. He also insisted that all LPP people continue to work to empower farmers’ institutions and farmers’ members.

LPP Director General Dato Azulita Salim said LPP was ready to respond to the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry’s recommendations in availability and security national food by focusing on ruminant and breeding projects (beef cattle in feedlot) on a large scale in meeting supply needs and the meat supply presently is sufficient.

Azulita said the agricultural industry is likened to a 3D industry which is Dangerous, Dirty, Difficult; which turns away young people, but LPP succeeded in producing many entrepreneurs and even created millionaire farmers organisations. LPP will also continue to commit to rejuvenation of farmers activities in attempting to attract the youth under the age of 40 to ensure the industry continues.

Awards were presented under 7 categories to 24 candidates from various Farmers Organisations across the country, offering a total prize value of RM60,000.00.

The main award for the LPP 5 Decade Awards Night was the LPP’s Special Person (Tokoh Khas) prize which recognizes excellence in contributions made by a leading Farmers’ Organisation. Other awards include the Premier State Farmers Association, Premier Area Farmer, Chairman of the Outstanding Farmers Association, Best Farmers Organisation, Grade A Farmers Trust Rating and My Green Team project.

Food Security, Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali, Deputy Chief Ministry Policy Secretary Dato’ Azah Hanim Ahmad, Head Director of the Board of Farmers’ Organizations (LPP) Dato’ Azulita Binti Salim, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodities and Development Sarawak Province Surai Anak Daha, general managers and key personnel of Farmers’ Organisations from across the country.
