One Million Student To Be Automatically Insured From March 20

Up to a million students in Selangor will automatically receive insurance coverage when the upcoming school session commences on March 20, said the State’s Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The premium for the coverage will cover students from Standard One to Form Six, including private school students.

“We will automatically arrange for schoolgoing children to register with the Skim Insurans Am Selangor (Insan) scheme for personal protection, before the Ramadan period,” he said.

In January, Amirudin said he seeks to discuss with the Selangor Education Department about enabling primary school students to register with Insan, for their protection. Meanwhile, the state government is aiming for five million residents to register with the scheme by the end of this year.

“At present, over three million residents have registered. Insan can cover up to six million individuals, and Selangor has almost seven million residents which means nearly everybody will be covered.

“Selangor is not only the first state in Malaysia to provide insurance coverage on such a comprehensive level but also the first in Southeast Asia to do so,” he said.

Insan is a collective personal accident insurance policy for residents aged between 30 days and 80 years, in which the state government wholly covers the premium costs.

The scheme, with a cover value of RM60 billion. provides up to RM10,000 in insurance coverage for cases of permanent disability and deaths caused by accidents.

Registrations can be made via the Wavpay app, which can be downloaded from the AppStore, Google Play or Huawei App Gallery. Members of the public seeking more information my do so by visiting programinsan.com.
