Indonesia To Provide Incentives For Electric Vehicles Starting March 20

Indonesia will provide incentives for sales of electric vehicles (EVs) starting March 20 to accelerate adoption and attract investment into production at home, senior cabinet minister Luhut Pandjaitan told media on Monday.

The programme will cover sales of 200,000 electric motorbikes and 35,900 electric cars, said Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita.

The move comes as the nation looks to be less dependant on costly imported fuel, the adoption model was changed from subsidy to incentives. Indonesia has two policies one for electric cars and the other for motorbikes where the former comes with tax incentives while the latter in the form of cash.
