Selangor Mandates Masks For All Ramadhan Bazaar Traders

Traders and food operators in the state’s Ramadan bazaars must wear face masks when doing business, as a hygiene measure.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Sahri said doing so will prevent the spread of Covid-19 and other air-borne infectious diseases.

“Although the situation for Ramadan bazaars is a significant improvement when compared to last year, nonetheless I would advise the traders and operators to wear face masks.

“We made it mandatory for food handlers to wear face masks, as it is one method of protection from diseases,” he said.

Amirudin was speaking to the press after officiating the Jelajah Kita Selangor Penyayang roadshow programme for the Petaling district, at Padang Permainan MBPJ in Desa Mentari 3 yesterday.

He believes the standard operating procedures for Ramadan bazaars nationwide will be monitored by the Health Ministry and the respective State Health Departments.

On January 1, the state government promulgated the directive to wear face masks among food handlers and restaurant operators in Selangor, so as to improve the level of cleanliness in food handling. The Menteri Besar said this approach will also serve to increase consumers’ confidence in the level of service provided, as well as to avoid spreading Covid-19 and food poisoning issues.
