Bank Rakyat Committed To Drive Digital Banking Transformation, Organises Tech Week 2023

Bank Rakyat continues to be committed to driving the digitisation of the country’s banking and financial landscape through the organisation of the Bank Rakyat Technology Week 2023 which will last for three days starting from 14 to 16 March.

This initiative which is themed ‘Bank Rakyat of Tomorrow’ includes various interesting programs including Digital Forum and Tech Talk sessions featuring a line-up of speakers from industry experts and local and international personalities such as Cloud Mile-Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services and Microsoft.

Exhibition spaces, workshops, Fintech Showcases and Q&A sessions are also organised as a networking platform for business units, agencies and stakeholders to discuss digitisation issues, particularly in initiatives to bridge the financial gap, thereby rebuilding a more inclusive, resilient and sustainable digital economic growth.

The Opening Ceremony of Bank Rakyat Technology Week 2023 also saw the launch of a number of Bank Rakyat’s new digital initiatives, namely QR Pay, which allows customers to make cashless payments easily and quickly by simply scanning a QR code through iRakyat mobile banking.

In addition, E-Lelong Ar-Rahnu which is an online auction platform to enable customers to bid on Pajak Gadai-i jewelery and gold items anywhere.

Bank Rakyat also announced a collaboration between Bank Rakyat and its strategic partner, AirAsia Rewards, which was signed for the first time to introduce the Bank Rakyat-i Credit Card reward points exchange platform. Bank Rakyat Credit Card-i holders can redeem airasia points for various facilities such as flights, accommodation or deliveries such as airasia ride and airasia food.

There will also be a prize giving program in the form of a Google Workspace subscription for 12 months to the winner of the Bank Rakyat Hackathon 2023 program. This initiative is a collaboration between Bank Rakyat under the Bank Rakyat UNIpreneur initiative and Universiti Malaysia Kelantan aimed at encouraging creative thinking and innovation among students to produce mobile applications that leverage their business model.

The Bank Rakyat Technology Week 2023 was officiated by the Minister of Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development, YB Datuk Ewon Benedick at the Bank Rakyat Twin Towers here, today.

In his opening speech, YB Datuk Ewon Benedick said, entrepreneurs, institutions and related agencies need to explore and take advantage of the digital wave, developing ecosystems generated by technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), mobile device networks, data analysis, Artificial Intelligence as well as a deep learning mechanism (Deep Learning Mechanism).

“Bank Rakyat’s efforts to continue to stimulate the technology ecosystem and innovation in its business operations is an important step in driving the country’s desire to develop a digital economy agenda in line with the Malaysian Digital Economy Blueprint (MyDigital) initiative by the government,” he said.

Bank Rakyat Board Member, Haji Mohd Jafri Kudus representing Bank Rakyat’s Acting Chairman, Datuk Mohd Irwan Mohd Mubarak said, this initiative is indeed timely in us realizing the aspirations of the country and the banking industry while proving Bank Rakyat’s commitment in supporting Bank Rakyat’s digitalization agenda. 2025 (BR25) as well as a digital transformation plan to emerge as a sustainable financial institution.

Meanwhile, Deputy CEO, Bank Rakyat Business, Ahmad Shahril Mohd Shariff said, Bank Rakyat hopes that this initiative can be used as a platform to help discussions, inspire and spark new ideas in the development of technology and digital innovation, especially in the banking and financial landscape.
