MCMC Issued RM7.4 Million In Compounds To Telcos For Poor Service Since 2018

MCMC said it had issued 170 compounds worth RM7.47 million throughout the period from 2018 to 2022 to telecommunication company licensees for failing to comply with the service quality standards set.

Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Teo Nie Ching said 49 compounds worth RM2.19 million were issued related to failure to comply with mandatory standards for public cellular services, 59 compounds worth RM2.69 million for failing to comply with wired broadband service standards, and 62 compounds worth RM2.59 million given for failing to comply with wireless broadband services. In addition, she said a compound worth RM50,000 had been issued to Celcom Axiata Berhad for failing to meet service quality standards in Sabah, which is related to wireless broadband access services.

MCMC has re-measured to check service providers’ compliance with all 29 Commission Directives that have been issued in Sabah. As of 9 Nov 2022, the results of the review found that the Mandatory Standard had been achieved in all 29 locations. “This service quality audit activity will also continue for 2023 with a target of 4,000 locations across the country including 225 locations for Sabah to ensure that the Mandatory Standards continue to be adhered to, thereby improving broadband network problems, especially in rural areas,” she added.
