Social media has been flooded with images of Penang’s new ferry, which is presently docked at a port in Haiphong, Vietnam.

When users first saw the Teluk Bahang ferry with the name imprinted on the exterior, their interest was aroused.

While many were anticipating the arrival of the vessel with excitement, others were worried about what would happen to the old boats and hoped they would be permitted to resume service.

The vessel, the first of four to be commissioned, was expected to be delivered between June and August, according to a spokesperson for Penang Port Sdn Bhd.

“It will be put through water testing in Vietnam before being sent to Penang, where it will be put through additional testing before going into operation.

The spokesman said, “The remainder of the vessels will come in phases.

Due to their expensive upkeep costs, the old double-decker ferries that could carry both people and cars were retired in 2021.
