Energy Transition Conference Fosters Understanding, Refines Energy Transition Initiatives

The Energy Transition Conference organised by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) in August this year is expected to foster public understanding on the effects of Energy Transition and refine the initiatives that relevant parties need to take to deal with the energy transition, said the Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change, YB Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

“In the process of Energy Transition and the current focus on sustainability, the energy value chain should appropriately be understood by all users because every member of society has a role to reduce carbon footprint in everyday living,” he said.

TNB will organise the conference on 24 and 25 August 2023 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center as one of Malaysia’s important platforms to stimulate solutions and cooperation across various economic sectors in addressing the energy transition. It also features an exhibition of energy transition solutions.

Nik Nazmi described the organisation of the Energy Transition Conference as important because the energy transition requires appreciation and concentration since the energy sector is one of the critical growth engines for the country’s economy by contributing significantly to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“The energy sector is a catalyst for economic prosperity and even in many situations, plays a role as a driving force for the development of key sectors such as trade, transport, industry, commercial and the residential sector. More importantly, it contributes to energy sustainability, efforts to take better care of the environment and move towards a more sustainable future, especially for the next generation,” he added.

President and CEO of TNB, Dato’ Indera Ir. Baharin Din said the conference is a platform for local and international leaders, experts, industry activists, policymakers and the community to share various innovative methods from various industries to accelerate responsible Energy Transition.

Baharin also said the organisation of the Energy Transition Conference is in line with the goals and aspirations of TNB’s Sustainability Direction 2050. TNB is committed to driving the country’s energy transition agenda through its net zero emission aspirations to support Malaysia in achieving its goal of being a carbon-neutral country by 2050.

The conference centred on transitions in three categories which include energy, transport and municipalities. These topics will cover four specific themes consisting of renewable energy, decarbonisation, digitization and energy transition enablers covering policies, markets and capabilities.

At the conference, participants will also be exposed to technologies and sustainable solutions through exhibitions and opportunities for business matching sessions.
