The Rahmah initiative concept will be extended to the insurance sector to enable the people to enjoy more affordable coverage rates.
Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said so far a company has given feedback regarding the proposal.
He is confident that more companies will offer the same service after its implementation.
“The first to respond was Etiqa and I have already asked officials to hold a meeting so that we can see how we can succeed in this initiative. Maybe we can offer Rahmah insurance, whether it’s (covering) vehicles, housing, real estate and the like,” he said after attending the Rahmah Menu Feast in Parliament, a while ago.
The Rahmah Menu feast was attended by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahir Hamidi, the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Datuk Johari Abdul and the Speaker of the Dewan Negara, Tan Sri Rais Yatim, along with about 2000 other guests.
Datuk Seri Salahuddin also informed about the proposal to introduce the same initiative in the banking sector.
“We can ask the help of the Minister of International Trade and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz to realize the effort,” he said.
The government introduced the Rahmah Menu last January to reduce the cost of living for the people, especially the B40 group.
