Following the departure of Siew Chee Seng, Chief Financial Officer UEM Sunrise has appointed Azmy Mahbot to undertake the financial duties of the group with effect from 1 April 2023.
Azmy will be responsible for overseeing the finance function including the financial operations of the Company during the period of transition while the search for CFO candidates is currently ongoing, and to provide the leadership needed to ensure business continuity. He re-joined UEM Sunrise on 3 January 2023 as the Head, Controller and is a seasoned corporate planning and corporate finance executive with over 20 years of experience specialising in takeover, merger, and acquisition as well as integration exercises of listed entities.
He started his career as an internal auditor with Renong Berhad in 1998, joined Mahisa Sdn Bhd as a project executive in March 1999 before moving to the Corporate Affairs team in Prolink Development Sdn Bhd, a company in the Renong-UEM Group property division, in September 1999. Thereafter, he continued to be attached to the property businesses of the UEM Group until December 2019, specialising in Corporate Finance and Investor Relations.
During his tenure, he was involved in several major corporate exercises including the listing of the Company (then known as UEM Land Holdings Berhad) on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad in 2008 and its takeover and merger with Sunrise Berhad in 2011. His last position was with the UEM Sunrise group in 2019 as Head, of Business Development & Ventures.
Azmy left the UEM Sunrise group in December 2019 and joined Dagang NeXchange Berhad in April 2021 first as Head, of Corporate Strategy and then as Head, of Corporate Governance. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting/Finance) degree from the University of Melbourne and a Master of Science in Islamic Finance from INCEIF University.
