MARii Appoints Azrul Reza Aziz As New CEO

Malaysia Automotive, Robotics & IoT Institute (MARii) is pleased to announce the appointment of Azrul Reza Aziz as the new CEO effective April 10.

He brings on board a proven track record for about 20 years in the corporate world and has expertise in various fields, particularly the automotive sector, finance and banking, human capital development, and consulting. Azrul was previously the Group Chief Executive Officer of UPM Holdings Sdn. Bhd. Group (“UPM Holdings”), a wholly owned subsidiary of Universiti Putra Malaysia (“UPM”) which was joined in early 2021. 

Speaking on the appointment, Chairman of MARii, YBhg. Datuk Phang Ah Tong said, “These are indeed exciting times for MARii as the organisation prepares itself to shape the future of the country’s industry by empowering local talent through high-tech skills training programs. He is set to lead MARii through a new direction with strategic and consistent branding. 

“With his tremendous exposure and experience in the field of automotive, technology, and innovation, I am confident that Azrul Reza Aziz has the ability and credibility to lead MARii to new heights” he added. 

Azrul Reza Aziz graduated with a Bachelor of Mechanical (Automotive Engineering) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and a Master in Business Administration (Finance) from Universiti Teknologi MARA. Given his experience, passion and knowledge for human capital development as well as investment, technology, and innovation, he is also often invited to be a guest speaker or lecturer at many local and international conferences, forums, and seminars.

Azrul said , “One of my priorities is to ensure that the new direction of MARii is in line with the national agenda and the mandate set by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). I believe that the future of the automotive industry depends on the development and promotion of technology while emphasizing technical expertise and providing support to local automotive and vendor companies in Malaysia. MARii will continue to strengthen the automotive ecosystem network in Malaysia through close collaboration with MITI as well as industry players, universities and other government agencies”.
