The once playground of Chinese mobile phone makers is now being threatened by Apple’s dominance as the iPhone maker spreads its presence in the populous market.
Apple Inc’s sales in India hit a new high of almost $6 billion in the year through March, Bloomberg News reported on Monday. Revenue in India grew by nearly 50 percent, from $4.1 billion a year earlier, the report added, citing a person familiar with the matter.
The market is warming up to iOS after years of Android play through China brands like OPPO and Vivo who now face stiff competition with iPhone’s affordable range. China brands are also losing their grip as the tension between the two countries continues to simmer.
Apple recently announced its increase in investment in India as the world’s largest company seeks to divest from China.
