Carbon Emissions Reduced By 45% Since 2015, Says Apple

Apple said it is making progress towards its goal of making every product carbon neutral by 2030 and that it has already reached this goal with regard to its global corporate operations.

The tech giant said it has decreased its carbon footprint by over 45 per cent since 2015, even though revenue has grown by over 68 per cent during that same period.

By 2030 the iPhone maker is aiming to cut emissions by 75 per cent compared to 2015 and and then dealing with the residual emissions through offsetting measures and CO2 sequestration, reported German news agency (dpa).

This, according to the company, would lead to “carbon neutrality across our entire value chain”, including products.

According to this year’s Environmental Progress report, which was released by the company on Wednesday, more than 250 suppliers, who account for 85 per cent of Apple’s manufacturing spend, committed to using renewable energy. A year earlier, there were 213.

The use of recycled materials also plays an important role. For example, the CO2 emissions associated with aluminium have been reduced by 71 per cent by switching to recycled metal.

Overall, one fifth of the materials used in Apple products came from recycling.
