The MAB Engineering Services (Mabes) has become a wholly-owned entity of the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), effective May 1, 2023.
Mabes has been placed under the purview of the Aviation Services profit centre, which is responsible for overseeing the cargo, ground handling and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) operations, as well as the training academy for the group, the MAG said in a statement today.
The portfolio will be managed by Aviation Services chief executive officer, Mohd Nadziruddin Mohd Basri, supported by Mabes chief operating officer, Eke Nazri Rahim.
“As part of the MRO operationalisation plan, we have devised strategic initiatives which have yielded positive results in our MRO revenue performance and clientele base, allowing Mabes to strengthen its position as a one-stop MRO solutions provider in the region.
“With new capacity, capabilities, and services, the reorganisation of Mabes will allow us to compete effectively in the third-party MRO market and lead the growth of the MRO business in Malaysia,” said MAG group managing director Captain Izham Ismail.
He added that Mabes remains committed to continue providing exceptional MRO services to its global customers, while also expanding its offerings to meet the evolving needs of the aviation industry, in line with the MAG’s Long Term Business Plan (LTBP) 2.0.
In addition to providing aircraft line and base maintenance to its own fleet — consisting of Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, MASwings and AMAL aircraft — Mabes has also garnered trust from international clientele, comprising both airlines as well as aircraft lessors.
According to the MAG, Mabes currently operates eleven production lines at three hangars, namely Hangar 1 at Subang Airport to cater to the maintenance of ATRs, and Hangars 5 and 6 at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, servicing narrow and widebody aircraft.
It is also actively looking at expanding its production lines in the next two years and currently holds 21 regulatory certifications covering Malaysia, Europe and the United States, among others.
Previously, Mabes operated as a subsidiary under Malaysia Airlines Bhd.
