MOH Says Instant Noodles Safe To Consume

The Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed that Penang Ah Lai White Curry Noodles and Indomie Special Chicken Flavored Instant Noodles comply with the legislation and are safe to eat.

Director-General of Health, Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan said the decision was made following laboratory analysis of both instant noodles.

“For imported food, the Ministry of Health implements six levels of inspection at the entrance based on risk. For Level 5 inspection which is Hold, Test and Release (TUL), food products entering the country will be held and analyzed first.

“Only food products that comply with the standards are released for the Malaysian market,” he said in a statement today.

According to Dr Muhammad Radzi, for the period from 2022 to April this year, a total of 317 samplings for the purpose of TUL have been carried out.

Of the total, 37 or 11.67 percent were TUL sampling on instant noodle products of various brands for ethyle parameters.

He said that products found to be non-compliant will be withdrawn from the market to ensure consumer safety.

“MOH would like to emphasise that the products in the local market have gone through the prescribed procedures and are safe,” he added.

For the record, the Taipei Health Department previously claimed that instant noodles made by Malaysian and Indonesian brands contained ingredients that promote cancer.
