Malaysia-Korea, Forging Stronger Ties In Food Sustainability

Both Malaysia And the Republic of Korea are looking to strengthen their bilateral relationship in the fields of agriculture, when Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Haji Mohamad bin Sabu received a courtesy visit from TYT Chung Hwang-Keun, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Republic of Korea in Putrajaya.

From 2020 to 2022, the value of agricultural trade between the two countries has shown a progressive and positive achievement where an increase of as much as RM1 billion was recorded each year. Among the areas that were discussed on how cooperation and bilateral trade can be enhanced in the field of agriculture in line with the need to ensure sustainable food sources and continuous. Both countries also agreed to further strengthen cooperation by establishing a Memorandum of Understanding on Agricultural Cooperation with the 40th Anniversary Celebration of the Look East Policy between Malaysia and The Republic of Korea is celebrated this year.

Through this agreement, both countries agree to share knowledge, experience, best practices, and business opportunities as well as cooperation proposals in the field of food security and agricultural technology innovation to address the challenges of the agricultural sector.
