Robust Loan Application In March, OPR Hike Short Term Impact Says MIDF

According to data released by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), loan applications for the purchase of property remained robust in March 2023, growing by +21%mom after double-digit growth in February 2023. Loan application in March 2023 jumped to the highest level in more than two years as buying interest on properties improved following a pause in OPR hike in January and March. On a yearly basis, loan applications in March 2023 increased by +10.8% yoy following a growth of +39% yoy in February 2023. Cumulatively, loan application in 1QCY23 was stronger as buying interest on properties was stronger following the reopening of the economy and country borders.

Vantage Data Centers Plans Additional US$3b Investment Into Cyberjaya

Vantage Data Centers will double down its commitment in Cyberjaya with a planned investment of an additional US$3 billion (RM13.32 billion) to build a second data centre campus, solidifying the city’s position as the top location in Malaysia for data centre investors. 

Vantage signed an agreement with Cyberview, the tech hub developer of Cyberjaya, to formalise the investment, which was announced at the Cyberview Hari Raya open house and 26th Anniversary celebration.

Govt To Focus On Central Database To Uplift People’s Socio-Economic Stance, Improve Subsidy Targeting

The National Economic Action Council (MTEN) decided today (May 15) that three main focus points will be implemented towards the progress of the national economy, which are to strengthen the country’s fiscal position, increase Government revenue and structuring the national economy towards a high value and sustainable economy.

Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who chaired the MTEN meeting in Putrajaya, said: “Today’s meeting focuses on two main points, namely, the need for a more comprehensive data system to assess the socio-economic position of each household and a subsidy retargeting plan to ensure subsidies are enjoyed by the target group and prevent leakages that harm the country and distort the economy.”
